Opening Doors to the Future: Girls’ and Boys’ Day at Altagram

Every year Girls’ and Boys’ Day (“Jungen-Zukunftstag”, translated as “Youth future day”) opens a window, into the working world for thousands of young students across Germany. This nationwide initiative encourages school-aged youth, especially those in grades 5 to 10, to discover career paths and question traditional gender roles in the workplace. By visiting companies and institutions for a day, students gain valuable insights into professions they might not have otherwise considered.

We were thrilled to take part in this event in April 2025, welcoming a group of curious and enthusiastic students to our Berlin office. The goal? To give them a behind-the-scenes look at the exciting world of video game localization, a field where language meets creativity and technology.

Discovering the World of Game Localization

For our young visitors, and luckily passionate gamers, it was their first glimpse behind the curtain of the video game industry. To give them a sense of our daily work, our team organized a full day of activities, offering Anton, Johan, Zoe, Valentine, Matthias, and Marie a broad peek at the many roles and processes involved in launching a multilingual game.
From recording character voices in our professional audio studios to testing an in-house game used for recruiting QA testers, our guests connected over the joy of discovering what lies behind one of their favorite hobbies. To provide even more depth, our Localization Production Lead, Dylan Martin, explained the linguistic workflows and how we collaborate with a large network of external translators.

Cyril Valenti, our Business Director Solutions, gave an engaging presentation that delved into our portfolio and the company’s structure with three offices in Canada, Korea and Germany. His insights, peppered with behind-the-scenes anecdotes and pop culture references, captivated the room, leaving more than one student wide-eyed at how much planning and detail goes into a single title.

More Than Just Work

Of course, no visit to Altagram would be complete without some playtime! After our localization exercises, there was time for a well-deserved pizza break and a spontaneous round of hide and seek in the office garden. It was a wonderful reminder that creativity thrives in joyful, welcoming environments.

We’re grateful to everyone who helped make the day so memorable, especially our team and guests, who brought such curiosity and energy to this exchange.

Localization as a Bridge

At Altagram, we believe that sparking curiosity is part of our daily mission: inspiring video game players worldwide through language and creativity. We see localization as a bridge, connecting people, cultures, and perspectives across the globe. That’s why we think sharing knowledge about our profession is more than just education; it’s a way to empower the next generation, challenge stereotypes, and open doors to opportunities that many young people may not yet know exist. It’s a small but important step toward building a more diverse, inclusive, and innovative gaming industry.

We are very much looking forward to next year’s Girls’ and Boys’ Day!
